Dixie chicks pose nude
Dixie Chicks pose nude for Entertainment Weekly.
Maguire and fellow musicians Emily Robison and Natalie Maines said they posed nude in response to the controversy created by pro-war advocates over Maines' remark at a concert in London on March 10 that they were "ashamed" President Bush was from their home state of Texas.

Blindness by stroking dog
Stroking a dog can lead to blindness.
In infected people the worms can grow in the back of the eye, causing lesions which can interfere with vision or be mistaken for tumours. Occasionally they cause blindness. If they migrate to other organs such as the liver or lung they can also cause a form of toxocariasis, whose symptoms include periodic bouts of lethargy, similar to glandular fever.

US action against France
Believe me, I'm no friend of the French government, in fact I'm still boycotting French products because of their nuclear testing on Mururoa. But if the US should choose to take action against France for their stand previous to the Iraq war, I am going to lift my life long boycot and sip on some Bourgogne.
So that will make them think twice.

Folic acid and Down's syndrome
Pregnant women in the US and Europe have taken folic acid to prevent neural tube defects in their offspring. Folic acid also decreases the chance on Down's syndrome.
The link between folic acid and neural tube detects is well established; the US Public Health Service recommends that women who are pregnant or might become pregnant take 400 micrograms of folic acid daily to prevent the defect, which affects the brain and spinal cord. But the new study is among the first to suggest a link with Down's syndrome, which causes mental retardation.

Hosting
The way this blog looks just won't do anymore. It's one of the worst months ever, financially, but I'll just have to pay for better hosting. This 100Kb won't be sufficient for what I have in mind. My study will have to wait to september, so I'll have time to learn some new tricks.
It certainly will look better!

David Yeagley truely understands communism
Communism is the religion of envy. It says, ?I want what you have. If you have a Cadillac, and I don?t, you have denied me, you have wronged me, and you owe me.?

Does that sound like communism to you? And there's more, much more.
Are you a morron too, everything is not lost:

Old and drunk
The old and the drunk most likely to be killed by a vehicle.
People 70 and older accounted for nearly 20 percent of all pedestrian deaths in 2001, giving a per capita death rate nearly double the overall average.
Almost one-third of pedestrian victims and about 15 percent of drivers had a blood-alcohol content of at least 0.08 percent, the level at which many states consider a person intoxicated, according to the report.

Hardly surprising!

Looted artefacts catalogue from the Iraq museum.
The illustrations here are from the only detailed catalogue of the museum, Treasures of the Iraq Museum by Dr Faraj Basmachi, published in Baghdad in 1975/6. We should stress that at this stage there is no detailed information on what objects have been looted, what have been damaged and what are safe. Nevertheless, the images in the Treasures of the Iraq Museum represent many of the most important objects from the collection, which numbers some 170,000 pieces.

Sadam out, Pizza Hut and Burger King move in
Sadam out, Pizza Hut and Burger King move in.
Basra: Fastfood giants Pizza Hut and Burger King have set up their first franchises inside war-torn Iraq, even as many aid convoys waited on the borders for the war to officially end.
The arrival of the two restaurants - sited inside giant trailers on a British military base near Basra - won a rapturous welcome from soldiers, whose limited range of rations lost their appeal many weeks ago.

This is an interesting quote I read earlier:
"We're not in the land of Burger King, Pizza Hut or Baskin-Robbins," said Lt. Col. Fred Padilla, battalion commander. "We're in the land of sand and MREs, and we're very happy to have hot showers, hot meals and bottled water."

US sugar industry blackmailing WHO
US sugar industry blackmailing WHO.
The industry is furious at WHO guidelines, which say that sugar should account for no more than 10% of a healthy diet. It claims that the review by international experts which decided on the 10% limit is scientifically flawed, insisting that other evidence indicates that a quarter of our food and drink intake can safely consist of sugar.
"Taxpayers' dollars should not be used to support misguided, non-science-based reports which do not add to the health and well-being of Americans, much less the rest of the world," says the letter. "If necessary we will promote and encourage new laws which require future WHO funding to be provided only if the organisation accepts that all reports must be supported by the preponderance of science."

Prohibition reimposed in Alaskan villages
Prohibition reimposed in Alaskan villages.
Six months after allowing liquor sales, two Native Alaskan villages have reimposed prohibition after problems ranging from drunken public officials to a rise in sexual assaults.
Pilot Station, on the lower Yukon River, and Atqasuk, on the North Slope, ran into too many problems after approving alcohol sales last fall, villagers said.
All of Alaska has above-average rates of alcohol use and abuse, according to state officials. Recent studies have shown Alaska first in the nation for alcohol-related deaths and near the top for drunken driving and alcohol-related vehicle fatalities.
More than 100 Alaska communities restrict alcohol and 76 ban sales and imports. Another 19 villages are damp, allowing imports but not sales.
