RIAA
The RIAA are a bunch of gimps. They don't get it. They'll never get it. In the history of business, and lets face it, music is a business in today's world, no business has tried to force customers into accepting their distribution method. Rather than adapting to the market. There might have been other examples but I can't come up with one.

Their latest news item has them spamming people on Kazaa and other P2P networks on the chat feature telling people using the feature that they know who you are.

How long till we see the RIAA site hacked again? Who's taking bets?

More Opera tips and info.

Hotlist offers many great panels that are very helpful with not only browsing but email as well. The News feature I believe I've gone over before. It aggregates XML feeds it seems from a few choice sources. It would be nice if would allow the addition of other RSS feeds. But, I digress.

The dictionary feature. Awesome feature. Type a word in and it will give you it's meaning. Mispell it, and it corrects it for you. Gives definition, and double click any word on the screen and it will define that one next. Sweetness :-)

The Notes feature allows you to have live a scratch pad handy when browsing and during emails. Copy and paste over to it from pages or emails. Then it will hold it there. You can have seperate notes saved there too, and easily export text into an email if needed.

That's it for today people.

Why do some people were enough cologne or perfume to smell them 100 feet away? Then as they're close enough to you to reach out and touch you, it's so thick, that the amount of free oxygen in the air is very small and you feel you will asphyxiate. Why? And a corollary to this is that I will be stuck next to this person in a meeting. Guaranteed.

Toronto wants to show how they have no fear of SARS, by offering $1 tickets to the Toronto Blue Jays baseball game against the Texas Rangers.

Yes, what better way to say, don't fear SARS, then by coming to one central location and interact with thousands of other people. This way, if one of them does have SARS, your chances to get it have gone up.

I've noticed at home that there is this lamp in the living room that is always on. I never see anyone turn it on, and it's not on the same circuit with a wall switch. So, somehow it's getting turned on. I came home and nobody was in that room, and the lamp was on. I turned off the lamp and left the room. Came back about 30 minutes later and the lamp was on again! I haven't mentioned it at all to the other 2 roommates yet, for fear I might sound crazy. :-)

I'll get to the posts in a minute. Let me browse the net myself for a little bit, and I'll be back.

Computer Meyhem.
Not much posting lately. It's been busy as heck at work, so not much free time there. And, most notably my computer crapped out this weekend. Sunday afternoon to be exact. It locked up on me, gave me Microsofts lovely BSOD, and now won't boot. I didn't even want to take a second to look at it. Just gave up on it. Hopefully I can work it out after work today.

Oh, and speaking of Microsoft. All you XP users out there. Maybe you might want to skip the security update this time around. Has a tendency to slow your computer to a crawl. Lovely company.

Steamy
While at the University of Kansas, there was a steam whistle that marked the end of the each class. The whistle would blow at 20 minutes past the hour. Earlier this year it broke. It had been a campus tradition for 91 years. I believe it originally came off steam ship.

The last incarnation was in place for 60 years before it cracked and was unrepairable. They're putting in a new one today. I'm glad they did.

Hey big guy at work:
The day you decide to wear a white shirt to work on a day it is raining, there are two things I would please ask of you at that time.

1. Wear an undershirt.
2. Wear a jacket out in the rain.

If you fail these two requirements, you only add to the horror of work for your poor co-workers.

If you live in Charleston, SC you better keep those Harleys in the garage, or look into some mufflers that actually muffle. They passed a law that you can't rev your engine loudly or drive off with a loud engine. Everyone knows that loud deafening noise is part of riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Its quintessentially an American bike. I'm loud and screw you I'm not going to quiet down. A Harley wouldn't be first choice for a bike, but if I was into some money you best be assured I'd have one too.

On a side note, everytime my neighbor down the block rides his by our house it sets off my car alarm. Very annoying. He best quiet it down.

I can just see Amish teenage boys fixing up their buggies to look faster. Chrome wheels, big wings on the back, Type R stickers, and ground effects. I'd just to have loved to see how that drag race transpired.

They pull up to the stop light. One guy revs his horse, the other guy responds, and it's on. Green light, and those horse take off.

It's the little annoyances in life that make the funny stories. Like me going to the vending machine for a nice Pepsi. Putting in my dollar. Pressing the number for the selection I want. Which I have memorized. And then looking the machine the second after I've pressed the last number and seeing the selection I want is SOLD OUT. Then I watched the little spiral thing spin around, and obviously not spit out a Pepsi.

NO SOCKS WITH SANDALS!!!!!!!!

With the weather changing we're going to start to see some of the alarming fashion trends that accompany warmer weather. Mesh shirts and cut off t-shirts being one. But that's not what we're here to talk about. What we are here to talk about is socks with sandals.

Now, we ask, why do you want to wear socks with sandals? One's like these. Common answer: It's a little chilly out so I want to keep my wussy toes warm. Your toes are too cold when you wear the sandals? PUT SHOES ON! Sandals are warm weather shoes. If the weather is not warm enough for you to comfortably wear them, then don't. Simple. I just always found it easier to call them to order. Then I realized something. Whats the first thing they always do when you call a pizza place? Put you on hold. I have a sneaking suspicion they are never really that busy. They just do it out of spite. So, I found that I can take the same amount of time and do it online, and not get asked several times, "Is that italian sausage or pork sausage?"

Yeah, and?

The simple fact that they have all kinds of stuff there, groceries, tires, light bulbs, and half-wit boob shoppers, does not make me want to shop there.

You can order someone not to be a nut-case? I mean, yes, from anti-social behavior such as stealing cars right and left. Can you also ban someone from "using abusive or insulting language or behaviour?"

I love England but this seems very odd. He can't go into any car park anywhere, under threat of arrest. Uh, how does he get into the store then?

As many of you know I usually work nights, so I don't usually see this. Our building has, in front, from left to right, an exit that you can't enter, then a single door, then a revolving door, another single door, and lastly a handicap door. Each are marked in bold "English" words, such as, Exit only, Push to start revolving door, and handicapped only. You wouldn't believe the theater you can have just watching people try and enter. Wrong way in the revolving door, stand in the revolving door, waiting for it to revolve, try and enter the exit, try the handicap door and then see the sign, back out and not find another door. I never had so much fun since I watched them unload paper in the basement.

KU Basketball
We haven't been to the National Title game since 1988. That was the year of Danny and the Miracles. I'm beyond ready for this game to begin. I wish only that I was in Lawrence, KS to watch the game, down at the Yacht Club. The electric feeling in the air must be incredible. I remember when I was in school there, that any basketball game would cause the entire place to be a loud, boisterous crowd. The next game is the pinnacle. The game which makes all the sweat and 1000 jump shots in the gym a day over the summer worthwhile. When the ball is tipped tonight, I'll have my heart back in Lawrence, longing for those days walking the campus and cursing the person whose idea it was to build it on top of a hill. Sitting in front of Strong Hall waiting for classes to change over. Finding the most deserted level in Watson Library so I could study in peace. It's hard not to feel like somehow I'm still part of that University. I'm not on the basektball team. I've only spoken to Roy WIlliams once. While walking to class my freshman year, passing him as he entered Allen Fieldhouse. He said, "Hello. Nice day." I simply replied, "Hi." I was a bit shocked. Could you blame me? He's not coaching me, but I feel the connection. So tonight, not only will the University of Kansas players be playing for the National Title for themselves, but Jayhawks in Lawrence, the U.S. and around the world will feel they are playing for us too.

Badges!?
Having internet issues here at work. That's why the lack of posts today.
-----

We work in what they call a "secure building." No access to the building without a keycard badge. It's a badge with your name and picture on the front. With the magnetic strip on the back. The access points do not have the type of thing you slide the card through, you just hold it up to it within a few inches and it either unlocks the door, or it doesn't. Used to work with this one woman who wasn't the quickest of folks.

One day my badge wouldn't work when I got to the door in the morning. I couldn't get inside. Luckily it was morning and everyone was coming in, so I just waited for the next person to show up and went in with them. I was explaining this to the co-worker mentioned above, and how that the magnetic strip might have been screwed up. She wanted to know what magnetic strip I was talking about. I explained to her the concept of our info being held on that stip, like a credit card and even our drivers license. She had this shocked look on her face. She asks me, "So it reads that strip when you hold it up to the door?" Yes, I explained. She leans over and whispers, "I thought it looked at your picture and knew who you were."

I should have busted out laughing, but rather I said this.
"They tried that, but people kept just using photos from their wallets to get in, and nobody carried their badges anymore. Management didn't like that, so they changed it." I turned around and walked off.

TV GUIDE posted a survey of the most trusted news anchors.
Ranking:
1) Tom Brokow
Tie 2) Shepard Smith, Peter Jennings, Dan Rather.

Who are these people asking, that Peter Jennings and Dan Rather even make the list. Probably people that used to watch Phil Donahue or Connie Chung.

Oh, Walter, where are you when we need you? Or let's bring Ed Morrow back.

Heart attacks fell by 50n Helena, Montana after they passed an indoor smoking ban--"The Oklahoman"
Smoking advocates will say that was only a glitch caused by people finding out they could actually move away and didn't have to actually live there.

Pizza or Mac?
Ok, back to more fun stuff.

Via Colnel Sanders Conspiracy, he points to an article about a 3rd party Mac manufacturer. These new Macs will be called the iBox (actually, we shouldn't call them Macs. They are going to be manufactured by a company other than Apple and can't use the name Macintosh)

The Wired article on the so-called pizza box computer, also includes a few pics of the case design. Very slick and worthy of having Apple innards. I also love the idea they plan to sell them at really competitive pricing. That's if this whole thing actually gets off the ground.

Casulties?
This article disappeared quickly off the front of the BBC site and took quite a bit of looking to find again. Although links about "possible" future civilian casulties have been in permanent place for quite a while. One's that haven't even happened yet.

Food
I've been called a picky eater. I prefer the term "selective with my food intake." There are things I like and those I don't. If it's not the same as the ones you like. Who cares? You eat what you want, I'll eat what I want. People often say, "Oh, you're missing out." Fine. That's just great. I'm missing out. How does this effect you? Oh, right it doesn't. My roommate cooked some weird looking thing last night. I'm not sure what it was, or what was in it. He asked if I wanted any of that. I said no. He wanted to know how I found what I liked if I never tried it. It's a crap shoot man.

Those crazy Germans, they just don't grasp the concept of revenge. They are going to boycott Coke. Now let's see, German owned company, bottled and distributed by Germans. I don't get the point.

NASCAR
I was joking around about there being a Fantasy NASCAR league. Like those fantasy baseball, football, and basketball leagues. Imagine my utter horror when I found out it was true!

FOX
I've seen and heard several people that question Fox's journalistic integrity and ability to report factual news. Well, according to Fox, they don't have to. It's their right to distort and lie deliberately.

Two articles are given to support this. Wanted to have more than one to make sure it wasn't April Fools, because it's just that odd.

Article 1 and Article 2

Tell me you didn't already think this was what Fox Networks believed.

SODA!!
Has anyone else suffered from short term memory loss? I did today. I dropped a bottle of Dr. Pepper that I just got out of the vending machine. I like any sane individual decided I wouldn't open it until a little later. Better be safe right? I walk to my desk, sit down, see I have a new email. Read it. Grab my Dr. Pepper and twist off the top. BOOM! My keyboard is a bit sticky now. What made me forget that 30 seconds ago, I'd just dropped this bottle?

Does it strike anyone odd that the reason American Airlines was going into bankruptcy, was that it couldn't compete with the discount carriers. Huh? Oh, here let me buy a ticket from you because I want to pay full retail even though another airline is going to the same city for half.

Oh, by the way, I can drive all the way downtown to the long version of Inna Godda Davida by Iron Butterfly.
