I am moving the blog here: My new Queendom

There wasn't a whole lot of information garnered for myself after the VP debates last night. I have read enough about our current Vice President and his...er...Bush's administration to be able to pick out the lies throughout. (I'm referring to information that didn't come from Fox news and other mainstream news sources. Imagine that...) Cheney had a far better grasp of the debates than the The Head Chimp but regardless, he still lied or warped things several times throughout.

So,therefore, there wasn't much that interested me,except for concern for gullible Americans who may buy it all hook, line and sinker.

What interests me more? The women behind the VP & VP Candidate. Afterall, behind every great woman is a trail of men behind every great man stands a great woman

. My opinion of Dick Cheney is not really that he is a particularly great man. Powerful,obviously...great,no. So, it the natural feminist curiosity within me to take a closer analysis at Lynne Cheney, as well as Elizabeth Edwards. How many households do you know of where the man's partner doesn't in some way influence his worklife? These women essentially hold office with their husbands. Some politician's wives prefer to stay in the background, while others relish the spotlight and use it to further their own agendas. Either is fine but whether they're in the background or forefront, they have some sort of influence in the political arena of their husbands, either directly or indirectly.

Elizabeth Edwards won bonus points with me,when she confronted Cheney on stage after the debates ,saying,"Oh,it's so nice to see you AGAIN.", since he so pointedely remarked that last night was the first Cheney-Edwards meeting. She reminded him that Edwards had escorted Elizabeth Dole to an event that Cheney spoke at and he directly addressed Edwards. She kind of went on to point out other meeting. He was a bit embarrassed, commenting,"Oh,yeah"

See, I think I've figured the whole flip-flopping thing with Cheney,at least. He just simply doesn't remember. Hey, it's ok. The guy is old. He's something like 800 years old now. He's bound to forget things. It's a normal process of aging, dementia and senility. Maybe he's not purposely changing his story from day to day...he just can't remember . Like, last night he said,"I have not suggested there's a connection between Iraq and 9/11." Really, now? Geez, I'm only 31 and I guess I must be losing my mind a bit because I could have swore it was Cheney who kept trying to link Mohammad Atta with some Iraqi official, even after it had been openly discredited by intelligence sources.

I must have early Alzheimers.

Ok, so anyway...the women behind the men...

I don't know much about Elizabeth Edwards besides tha she obviously doesn't let inaccuracy slides and also that she was also a lawyer who quit her job to be a stay at home mom and then tragically lost their 16 year old son. In her late 40s ,she gave birth to two more children,in her words,"Not to replace (their) son's life but to reintroduce joy into it". She seems to handle motherhood with a lot of humor, sensitivity & joy.

Now,Lynne Cheney on the otherhand, I do know a little bit about. Her most memorable moment to me was four years ago when she was interviewed by Cokie Roberts before the GOP convention. Cokie simply made reference to the Cheney's openly gay daughter Mary. Lynne was furious and said,"Mary has never declared such a thing"....as if THAT thing was something that was horrible and nasty. Yet,Mary had declared herself a lesbian, quite openly and laster that week, attended the RNC with her lesbian partner by her side.

So, this alone...by itself,is kind of offensive if you're sensitive to gay/lesbian issues but when you take into consideration Lynne Cheney's venture into authorship, it get's very confusing. In the early 1980's (before Dick had much of a really in the public role), Lynne wrote a novel called Sisters.

The main character and heroine ofSisters is a bisexual frontier woman. Oh...and not only a bisexual woman,an adulterous bisexual woman. Reading excerpts that I have from the book(and trust me, the book is no stunning literary achievement, really), Lynne Cheney absolutely "gets" the lesbian experience. One must wonder how it is that she understands the beauty of loving another woman so well.

Either she has a really wonderful fantastical imagination and she used her writing to live out her supressed lesbian fantasies OR she herself is a lesbian.

If she was so vehemently opposed to lesbianism, why wouldn't she have made the main character an example of sin and wickedness instead of making her a heroine? What happened between 1981 and 2000? Did Lynne have a change of heart about her feelings about lesbianism (and perhaps her own sexuality) or was it just that since she was finally more in the public eye, she felt the need to supress her own feelings about homosexuality because it wasn't an acceptable thing for a Republican VP's wife to be?

Some of the other elements about Sisters are certainly non-Cheney like, at least the male partner in the relationship. Women discuss birth control options and make reference to men needing to share the responsibility for such things. Whereas, if you'd ever hear Dick Cheney talk about issues such as abortion or just reproductive health, you'd think it was solely a "women's issue" and that women are the sole purveyor's of sin and filth. As if no man has anything to do with the unwanted conception in the first place and hence, doesn't ever have to share the burden of "sin" if said conception ends in abortion.

Lynne Cheney is an enigma, indeed. Or possibly she's just a hypocrite. A repressed wife with bisexual tendencies and closet feminist views who puts her own opinions tucked deep inside along with her hot lesbian sex fantasies in order to put on a face for America for the sake of her husband's corrupt, lie -riddled Presidential Vice-Presidential career.
