Thank you to Blog Studio for all the help over years! :)
(Feb 2010 Update): Haloscan is no more. Therefore the comments on this blog are no more. Sad, but true. I'm not paying $12 a year for the occasional comment with Echo. Apologies to all those who have commented. I have saved them and may well stick them somewhere else at some point.

"Listen Very Carefully....... I shall say this only once". And the sign in the hotel car park in Rouen, said it exactly like this -: Which, if you read very carefully, does make some sense as after all :) Yes, the week was spent in Chartres and then Rouen. I shan't bore you with the work details, but I will show you a piccy of me getting blasted to death by wind and salt water on the sea cat/hover thingy going from Dover to Boulogne, with the French coast in the background somewhere. (It's the best self photo portrait I could do under the circumstances!)-: And for the nautical types amongst you, (and just to show that I'm not being overtly racist in any manner), here's a piccy of the back of the sea spouting jet foil machine - with the White Cliffs of Dover disappearing in the background: It wasn't really a fantastic trip for photos, (as I only had my phone with me), but I was intrigued by these fire hydrants that were dotted around, very obviously, on the pavements in the industrial estate in Chartres... It was bloody hot there last week! And, unfortunately, my hay fever was playing real havoc with my breathing/sleeping etc. So, in some ways, it was nice to cross back over the channel to a bit of rain today :)

My First Speeding TicketYes. For the first time - EVER(!) - I got a speeding ticket last week. Yes - I was speeding, but unintentionally. There I was minding my own business, on Bank Holiday Monday, (and that's one of the most galling part of this - being given a speeding ticket "in my own time", and NOT at work), tootling along - and whoosh - up behind, in the rear view mirror was a blue flashing light attached to a white Jag, or some such fast car. Quick as a flash, the policeman jumped out and opened my car door, and asked me to come to his car. Quite scary really, as I've never been "pulled" by the police at all for anything - honest! Anyway, we sat in his car and he showed me what looked like a very large car radio sticking out of his dashboard. This, apparently, held all the data which confirmed that I had been speeding. It was interesting, because I expected to see a video of me - HA ! - but it was just a LCD display with numbers on. I suppose I could have said "I'm sorry mate - but that's a load of bollocks! How does all those numbers relate to my car? Prove it!" - and let's be honest, he wouldn't have been able to would he? It probably wouldn't have been the best defense in court, but it would have been a bit of fun, eh? :O) Anyway, back at the roadside...... there I was - a bag of nerves. So, in order to try to sound a bit more human and compassionate, the policeman says to me - "I'm sorry Mr Flanagan, we had to meet under these circumstances..." ???? I didn't really give a S**T what he was feeling. And anyway - what "other" circumstances was I going to meet him under? Could he just have decided to stalk me and murder me in my bed one night...... instead of stopping me for the speeding offence? But he did his best to alleviate the tension from the situation. Of course, he could have "alleviated the tension" a whole lot more by NOT giving me a speeding ticket ;0)

Jimi Hendrix At Chislehurst CavesYesterday, Saturday 7th April, we went to Chislehurst Caves - an underground labyrinth of chalk caves which have been excavated since druids times. The Saxons and the Romans also had a dig in there. During the early 20th century in the 1930's the cold caves were used to "farm mushrooms" - yes, they there. And during WWII the caves housed up to 15,000 local residents - making it, probably, the largest underground air raid shelter in the world. During the 1950's and 60's the caves were used as a venue for skiffle groups and burgeoning rock n' roll bands. Here is the stage where Jimi Hendrix once played..... And I touched the stage where Jimi Hendrix played.... okay, it was also the stage where the Rolling Stones played - as well as many other household 60's pop band names. Get along to Chislehurst Caves if you can - it's a very alternative few hours! :)

Mirror In The BathroomWe went to some farm animal zoo type place the other week, and I had need to use their toilet facilitates. Well, one normally finds some rundown dilapidated toilet block etc etc, but I was weirdly surprised to find this.... What I liked about it was the funky Cat Woman Mask-A-Like shaped mirror. Naturally, I had to take a photo..... another toilet photo, I know. One day I'll get caught doing that - blimey! ;O)

Leaves In The ParkIt was a sunny day in the park. There were leaves.... er .... "leaving" around. In fact, some of them had "left" the trees altogether -: And the leaves looked so scrunchy and photogenic - that it was worth getting down on my hands and knees with my Sony 800i phone to get a good piccy! :)
